Absolutely gutted. Only found out yesterday that The Cornerhouse in Manchester will be hosting a screening and Q&A session with Director/Actor Paddy Considine but it is sold out! Why was I never informed of this!? Considine has been in some of my favourite films such as 24hr Party People, Dead Mans Shoes and last year in Submarine. This would be a fantastic opportunity to ask about his influences, style and experience directing his debut film ‘Tyrannosaur’. I will be tweeting @TheCornerHouseMCR and @Paddy-Considine like crazy until I manage to get tickets!
Finally got chance to see Red State last night and was very disappointed. The film looks amazing, the jittery camera work and gritty looking work by the Cinematographer David Kline is very impressive especially considering the film was made on a 4 million dollar budget and shot in 27 days. The director Kevin Smith let the film down, his lazy directing and long boring sections of tension killing speech brought the whole film down and it ended up no better than any other average horror movie these days. I really should have expected the directing to be poor, considering Kevin Smith previous films have been Mallrats, Cop Out and Jersey Girl but for some reason after seeing how nice the trailers looked and hearing about the subject matter I was expecting it to be a lot better.
An amazing DJ and producer has died today at the age of 34. DJ Mehdi was a main member of the french electro collective Ed Banger Records, a very talented man and extremely entertaining every time I was lucky enough to see him live.
Love this artists work, first saw it at Tate Liverpool a few years ago and it was a big influence on my work at the time. Its very interesting and thought provoking abstract art.
